My name is Jesús “Chuy” Covarrubias and I am a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with roots in Monterey County.  I have performed professionally most of my life. I hold degrees from U.C. Berkeley and Stanford University and currently teach Music and Ethnomusicology at San José City College and at San José State University.

I launched this solo project in 2022 to bring my voice and guitar to more intimate settings with both English and Spanish covers of many genres including, Pop, R&B, Country, and Latin.

 

In addition to Guitar I also play Keyboards, Alto Saxophone and Accordion.  In 1989 I joined “Dr. Loco’s Rockin’ Jalapeño Band” which went on to become one of the Bay area’s most critically acclaimed bands. I have been musical director with my current band, “Los Niteliters” since 1995.  I have recorded several albums and have toured many parts of the United States performing various genres of Music.

 
I have also directed music for theater in addition to composing, recording, and producing music in my home recording studio in Salinas, CA.
